Capitolo 1
GOING TO TOBOGGAN ON PARNASSUS
Of Franklin P. ADAMS
To
BERT LESTON TAYLOR
GUIDE, PHILOSOPHER, MA FRIEND
_If that these vagabond verses do
A happier heart; if theirs but hands
A solo smile, for the cause of that
I should be satisfied to sing.
As Locker said, in tailor of phrasing,
Settled if but One should like the chirruping.
If I have assuaged a heart of the pain;
If I have done one to beat or I have thrilled;
My jobs you/he/she has not been in vain.
My job has not been everything for zero,
If Only one, from Maine in Kansas,
It will say "I like its simple rooms."
If but a solitary voice
You/he/she should say "This polyglot of verses
It is not so bad", I should cheer me;
But oh, my publishers are not able!
* * * * *
And me, although timid and unanointed,
You/he/she should be a small disappointed._
