heroically, as of the other cities that are been besieged, in venerable old man
as modern times. But you have to know that you besiege, as
battles, deduce their great importance and everybody that does them
remembered in expectancy, not so a lot from the amount of blood that has
is shed during them, not so a lot from the impetuosity of the
attacks did or the heroic defenses, as from the way in that
they strikes the fate of nations. Some sieges are extraordinary for one
thing, some another. The siege of Washington was more extraordinary for
the way in which was defended the city that the way in that
it was attached. Anybody field was enriched with slaughter, neither flags
bathed in blood.

You, memoirs, my child, the history of storied Troy, with his "pomp
and circumstance of glorious war." But, my child, is seemed never
to me more interesting than the passage of Thermopyl. Neither the wish
Agamemnon lives in history after Leonidas has forgotten. And still these
events in ancient war were small comparative with the battles our Grant
fought. Its actions will make as you read of them in history, and
becomes greater than them all.

And my child, allows now, us to hasten to the siege of Washington. Washington
you/he/she was besieged and Washington was saved;  and the history of his
salvation doesn't have to perish. Rome, you know, you/he/she was saved by the cackle
of a goose. And when I tell him that Washington, the city of capital of
this great nation was saved too free by the use of a barrel of
whiskey, you don't have to be amazed. When his/her great circle of
the fortifications, now ruffling himself/herself/itself with gun and stuffing with busy
soldiers, will become so many grassy tumults, their history owes
still long live to excite the patriotism of those that you/they come later us.
