with those of the polar regions, where in a case a great river
of ice sixty miles wide, flowing from an unknown distance some,
thousand of feet in depth (or height), it pours out in
the sea.<20>

We suffered perceive that such mass of ice could not pour down
a valley without leaving clear signals of his/her passage.
The sides of the mountains would be slashed deeply and you/they would be smoothed.
Handle grips that project would be brought away. The surface of the
valley, exposed to the power of enormous grinding of the touching one
ices, would be crushed, you/he/she would be pulverized, and you/he/she would be dragged together with him.
Pieces of stone as that here it represented, it would form part of
this touching < the i>debris, and as them you/they had crowded long them
now and then you grate on more firmly another piece of stone
sat, and so their surface would be scratched deeply in the
direction of their greatest length. There is more and more or less
water that circulates under the Alpine glaciers and the brooks
that flow from them is always very muddy, while containing, as them
face, quantity of crushed stone, sand and clay.

Illustration of Scratched Stone---------

If, for some reason, this earthy matter had not washed out him
it would form a bed of hard clay in places packaged with these,
striped stones. Such clay beds are known as "up to" or
clay of bowlder.<21>

This is descriptive, although in a very general way, of the
I froze as they exists to-day. Geologists have been from very aware
of the fact that they has convincing tests of the first one
presence of glaciers in Northern Europe, where now the climate
it is mild. The mountains of Scotland and Wales show as distinguished
traces of glaciers as does those of the Alps. It is not necessary,
in this hasty squirt, to enumerate the many motives on that
this conclusion remains. It is enough to state that from the
united jobs of many investigators in that field we am in
possession of a lot of conclusions related to the great glaciers of
