From the moment when, through the courtesy of my friend Barrett
Wendell, I came to know the book of the Mr. Henry Adams, Mont-Saint before-
Michel and Rentals, I was convinced deeply that this privately
printed, jealously careful volume should be withdrawn by his
hiding-place among the bibliographical treasures of collectors and
amatory and determined that wide publicity likewise required from his
intrinsic nature and the cause that you/he/she could so admirably serve.
To say that the book was a revelation it has to inadequately express a
fact; immediately the whole theology, philosophy and mysticism the
politics, the sociology and economics, the novel, the literature and art
of that greater epoch of the Christian civilization was provided of fuse in the
still of an unique acumen and it fell from the dynamic strength
of a personal and separate style. A judgment that was able well
you/he/she has been influenced by personal inclination it received the turn of
many in two continents, more competent to pass judgment, better able
to talk to authority; and so it strengthened, I had the honour of
telling the Mr. Adams, in the autumn of 1912, that the American
Architects' institute churches to the right separate of
systematizing for the publication of an edition for general sale, under
his/her really imprimatur. Now the result is the volume done available for
public circulation.
In the justice to the Mr. Adams, should be said, that such publication is,
in his/her opinion, not necessary and uncalled-for, a conclusion in that
neither the American institute of Architects, the publishers neither
the Editor coincides. Besides, the form in which it is the book
introduced it is not any bargain of the author that, in to give reluctant
consents to publication, it expressly stipulated that he should have anybody
part or it divides in to bring out so angry a hazard of faith,--as him
appraised the project to give his/her book to the public.
In this, and for once, its judgment is to guilt. Mont-Saint-Michel
