On a small valley in the mountains of stand of surly Southland and
preventing in their uneven beauty--holding near among them
confinements those that had found theirs living scarce for generations
on the sterile sides of mountain and in the richest valleys, saying
No! to the pressing one out of world, with his/her progress and his/her
change.

Many winters and summers passed on the setup of J----, on
---- stream, forty miles from all the closed railroads in to crown of laurel-covered
hills and mountains of pine;  his/her people, of ancestry of excellent pioneer and
deeply religious, thrown again on them through segregation
and isolation, had lost a lot of of the initiative and you/he/she had forced that
characterized their ancestors, and you/he/she had crystallized along the
lines of their particularities, as some people want under the same
conditions.

On the stream and in the valley one day came there two "foreigner"
women from the great world over. They was House Missionari,
but it didn't use this designation for fear the people of mountain
doesn't understand that they simply came as friends to bring
to the valley the _opportunity_ America gives to his/her children.

They found the people the simple people, ignorant but without touch of
vulgarity. Their eyes didn't see opening over the blue shades of
the mountains that wind. To some the covetous one to _know_ or that
it is probable that their children have a "_chance_", suspended far as a star away,
but with small hope of attainment.

A dark fatalism presided on their destinies. "What has to be the wish
both, I calculate", it added on their philosophy.

Around many of them an atmosphere of the unconscious appeared moral
heroism that gladly it gives his all to meet whatever the day it is able
harbors of deprivation, the work, the suffering or death.

The people of valley is very mistrustful of the two friends for before,
and curious around them in a timid way, kind.

Because you/they had come? Which their true motives it was? They meant only
good to the valley? It assumed many months of endeared service the
