of service, so that there was few of caste in the system English;  it
it was on the earth and not the person that the service has been imposed;  and
The Book of Domesday of William was not a record of the lines and classes of
the people but an examination of the earth, detailing rents him and service
owed by every part.

The local agency from which the Normans strengthened these setups was
the feud. The Anglo-Saxons had organized counties and hundred but the
unity lower, administrative district or vill it seems not to have had organization except,
perhaps, for agricultural purposes. The Danegeld that imposed William
after the Domesdays observe, you/he/she was esteemed on the hundred, as if
there were no anybody smaller unities from which you/he/she could be imposed. But the
