Capitolo 11
his/her poverty. Herbert foretold this, but he was proud in his/her way, and
answered: "Because I choose."
"It has to like well him, the dust that is all" it said James with complaisance,
furnishing his/her boot well-smoothed with a light reed that he had bought.
"Where is you/he/she going?" Asked Herbert, thinking him/it about duration for him
to start questioning.
"Also", I am going to Randolph he/she answered to James, with unusual
affability. "I will stop some days with a the friend of mine, Tom
Spencer. His/her father is a rich man--you/he/she found there a beautiful place. It didn't do her
ever feels of the Mr. Spencer, the lawyer?"
"I don't think that I have."
"That is his/her father. Him ago a load of money from his/her business of law. ME
you think that I will study law of the duration. I will perhaps go to association
with him. What is you/he/she going to be?"
"I don't know yet", said Herbert.
"I suppose that you will be a mechanic of some kind--a carpenter or mason,
or mason."
"Perhaps so", said Herbert, quietly.
"What is you/he/she going to Randolph for?" Asked James, with sudden
curiosity.
"To frequent the funeral of my uncle."
"Which is the name of Your uncle?"
"The same as mine."
"I suppose that he was poor."
"No, he was rich."
"Was it?" Repeated James, in of the surprise. "Thing you think that he was
value?"
"Approximately one hundred thousand dollars."
"Sho! You don't say this way. Perhaps", continued James, with new-been born
respects, "he has left Him anything in his/her wish."
"I think of no."
"Because not?"
"He has not shown interest in us for six years, and I don't think
he will now remember us."
James seemed thoughtful. He never had first felt of this
relationship, or he would differently have treated Herbert. The lake
fact to have a rich relative raised notably our hero in
his/her eyes. There was also then, a possibility that Herbert would turn
out a legatee.
"When it is the funeral of Your uncle?" he asked, after a break.
"This afternoon."
"You won't arrive there in duration. You would do better to wake up him and ride."
