Capitolo 34
That electrifying night. Photographers, she said,
Asked to her to place for them; his/her eyes and forehead,--
Brown and dark eyes and a smooth and pale forehead,--
You/he/she was thought of yes beautiful.--And so they was.
Pauline. . . These violets are as remembered words. . .
Dear! she whispered. . . Dear! . . . Dear! . . . Dear!
Well, I suppose that such days can come but once.
God, as happy were us! . . .
Here, if you only knew him/it, it is a history--
Here, in these leaves. I stopped my job to say him/it,
And then, when I had ended, it kept on thinking:
A man that I have seen on a train. . . Me he/she anchors I was a boy. . .
Who killed plunging himself/herself/itself against a wall.
Here is a memory of my wife,
When still she was mine beautiful, years ago.
As things it is amusing change,--as soon as they change, growing,
Without an effort. . . And here are banal things,--
A cold, a forgotten errand, a trimming of time cut;
A friend of mine that tells me that he gets married him. . .
Or is it how hard so banal? Well, no matter!
This is the kind of thing that you will see of me,
If You enough it seems hard. This, in his/her way,
It is some kind of the fame. My life systematized in front of you
In rolls of paper of leaves, rosebuds, violets, ivy,
You gathered or it garlanded on dish and cup and base. . .
I sometimes, say, I am only as John the Baptist--
You have my head in front of you. . . on a base.
VIII. COFFINS: INTERLUDE
Gusts. Snow's falls. The great clock in his/her tower
Check marks with reverberant wind and tolls the time:
To the sudden hit and I lavish the pigeons badminton. . .
The excellent flutes of snow the cracks among the pavement stone.
We close our coats, and it expedite, and it crosses the sky.
We am as music, every voice of him that it pursues
A separate and gilded dream, remote the persistent one,
Climbing to shoot receding to the hoarse desperation.
What does he/she talk to low voice brother? What does it tell me? . . .
We pass each other, we are lost, and we don't take care of.
A covering above to the beauty, while serenely singing,
