and it snows, or the variety of his/her colours from those of the rainbow,
you/he/she cannot have called the intelligence, unless, besides this obvious similarity,
there is of the further congruence discovered in the two ideas that are
able to give to the reader of the surprise. This way, when a poet says
us the breast of his/her owner is white as the snow, there is no intelligence in
the comparison; but when he adds, with a sigh, it is also as cold it,
then it grows in the intelligence. The memory of every reader can provide him/it with
innumerable examples of the same nature. For this reason, the
similitudes in heroic poets that the endeavour rather to fill the mind
with great conceptions that to divert him/it with as it is new and
surprising, rarely has anything in them that can have called the intelligence.
The account of the Mr. Locke of the intelligence, with this short explanation he/she understands
the most greater part of the kind of the intelligence as metaphors similitudes, allegories,
enigmas, mottoes, parables, fables, dreams, visions, dramatic
writings, parody, and all the methods of allusion: as there it is
many other pieces of the intelligence as remote soever that them for first you/they can appear
perceived by the preceding description that will be on examination
you found to agree with him.
As true intelligence generally consists in this similarity and the congruence of
ideas, false intelligence mainly consists in the similarity and the congruence
sometimes of sun letters, as in anagrams, chronograms, lipograms,
and acrostics; sometimes of syllables, as in echo and doggrel
rhymes; sometimes of words, as in puns and games of words; and sometimes
of whole sentences or poems, throws in the figures of eggs, axes or
altars; no, of the amount carried over the notion of the intelligence till now as to attribute him/it
also to the external mimicry, and to repute a man as a clever
person that can resemble to the tone, laying or face of another.
As true intelligence consists in the similarity of the ideas and the false intelligence in
