University in Harvard (1854-1858)
One day in June, 1854 how young Adams has walked for the last time
down the footsteps of the school of the Mr. Dixwell in Boylston Place, and
felt any feeling but one of deprived joy of the necessary requisite that this experiments

perfectly done in the one, and in some case you/he/she would have had small
value. The next footstep to regulate was the university in Harvard. He was more
how happy to go. For generation after generation, Adamses and
Brookses and Boylstons and Gorhams had gone to the university in Harvard,
and even if none of them, as far as known, you/he/she had ever done some
good there, or thought him the best for him, custom, social
ties, convenience and, above all, economy, kept every generation
in the footstep. Some other education would have asked for a serious
effort but anybody taken the university in Harvard seriously. All went there
because their friends went there, and university was them ideal
of really social love.
