THE MAGIC FIRE
Strode of Wotan some footsteps away from where Brunhilde slept, then it struck
the stone with his/her mighty lance.
Red flames shot on, leaping almost to the sky. They was magic flames
and it would not damage any one.
But they seemed the true fire, and anybody but a hero would challenge goes in
them.
They would frighten away all the cowards.
Wotan made a turn the peak, while drawing a line with his/her lance.
From every place the lance touched before the burst of fire, up to that for a long time
the tumult where Brunhilde slept it was completely surrounded by dark flames.
Wotan Gran reputed his/her job. Then he turned and he/she called to all the
mountains and the valleys under:--
"Dareth of Whoso the lance of Wotan,
Nothing of knoweth of Whoso of fear,
Allow him to burst these flames of war,
Do him/it I jump this ardent bar!"
