they favors involved a problem in the presence of which I confess
to-day that I sustain petrified.

It is said,--if really or not,--that when of the years ago John
Morley, the writer English and thinker were in this country, on
returning in England him the remarked that the question of run African, as now
existing in the United States, he/she introduced as almost a problem to his,
you mind, insoluble as some human problem well you/he/she could be. I don't take care of
if the God Morley made this affirmation or you/he/she didn't do him/it. I am
however it prepared him to say, that, individually, till now as my present
judgment goes, it is a correct presentation. To us in the north, the
African is comparatively a negligible factor. Till now as Massachusetts,
for example, or the city of Boston pertains to more especially, as
a problem is resolving himself/herself/itself. Proportionately, the African infusion is
becoming less--never great, it is now incomparably less that was in

also one who he/she minds the extinction. Indeed it would be, enough opens to
question if an Afro-american individual of Ethiopian descent and not mixing
you/he/she could now be found in Boston. What the problem introduces him with a

my youth was that but seven, or at the most fourteen, years were
forced to convert the alien immigrant--any matter from that region or
of what descent--in an American citizen. The instructive influences
and social environment was presumed for not only to be thin, but
all-penetrating and powerful. What this theory was a great and equal
dangerous extension wrong the observation of the last fifty years has
tried, and our experience of Massachusetts is sadly showing to-day.
It was Oliver Wendell Holmes that, years ago, when he/she asked from an anxious
mother to that age the education of a child should start, remarked in
