A hour passed, and the lessons were but half through, when a ring
to the door it provoked them both to start, and they left the room.
Aunt Susan responded to the call, and it introduced the visitors in the
session-room of family.
"Some ladies have called to see her/it, Miss Vernon" she said,
thrusting his/her head in the street of access of the room where teacher and
pupil sat near together with hooked hands, as if some invading
strength was almost about to separately tear their lives.
