"Thing other", she asked, the Dr. Redfield La "they gave?"

David didn't answer. He pushed his/her face deep in the womb of Mother.

"Didn't doctor give him anything other?"

"No"

The word came with smothered indistinctness, but its meaning was
clear.

"Thing, nothing?"

David rose the head and takings taken of the hand of Mother. He had
grown very red in the face.

"Then that that on the portrait?" she asked, while not giving attention to his
embarrassment. "Where did it find that?"

Both of the fists of David you/they were now seizing himself/herself/itself fast to the woman
hand.

"Mother", he said, "me alone tooked it."

"Oh, dear me!"

"Mother, I beat down it. It broke. Me the tooked it."

A sudden silence had taken of the room. The head of the small boy
once more sunk in the womb of Mother and him shaken with silent hiccups. A
damp heat overcame its skirt and you/he/she was felt on its knee.

"This is hard on the Doctor", she said, and its voice was fixed,
but its hand softly smoothed the hair of its small boy. "He did her
you look at the portrait, and you/he/she is now spoiled. He only had that,
and you/he/she can never find another it likes. You broke him/it, and You the takings
from him. We cannot arrange him/it;  you/he/she is done for. My, my! what we are
to do?"

David's arm they tightly went on the knees of Mother. In mute anguish him
clung to her, begging for help without saying a word.

"If only we had another portrait!" Mother suggested.

--Would that do?

To the sudden David you/he/she had stopped to cry. With the wet one, glimmering,
lacerate-footsteps through his/her cheeks he looked on.

"Mother!" Its eyes were wide open. "In Your drawer", he said, but
its voice was so small he could not do really he felt, "in
Your drawer there is one--an excellent portrait!"

"Is there?" Anxiety was in the tone of Mother;  good hope was in
Mother's glance, but the glance faded away and didn't leave anything but
disappointment in his/her eyes. You had remembered an a little gilded
medallion in a drawer of the chiffonier, a medallion that has contained the
