border building on him a permanent wall. He put the whole strength
of his/her army on the job, and in one or two years, as it is said,
he completed the structure. It is known in history as the Wall of
Severus; and so solid, substantial, and permanent it was the job that
his traces have not disappeared completely a present day.

The wall extended through the island, from the mouth of the Tyne on
the German ocean, to the Solway Frith--almost seventy miles. It was
twelve feet stop, and eight feet wide. You/he/she was faced with substantial
masonry on both the sides, the spatial and intermediary being likewise filled

troops that it would be necessary otherwise to protect the line. For these
soldiers were built the great fortitudes to intervals long there the
wall, wherever a situation was found favorable for such structures.
These called states _stations_. The stations were busy from garrisons
of troops and the small cities of artisans and workers soon jumped on
around them. Among the stations, to the smallest intervals it was other
the smallest fortitudes called castles, understood as places of defense and
sharp rallying in case of an attack, but not for garrisons of some
considerable number of men. Then, among the castles, to smaller

sentinels. This way the whole line of the wall was every where defended
from armed men. The integer assumed so in the defense of this
extraordinary bastion was said to be ten thousand. There was a breadth,
deep, and continuous pit on the northern side of the wall, to

military road and well-built on the southern side on that the troops,
shops, wagons, and baggage of some kind you/they could quickly be transported
