Preface
In a more first series of books the present writer told the history of the
tall attainments of the men of the military Marina of United States, from the day of
Paul Jones to that of Dewey, Schley and Sampson. It is a record American
you/he/she can concern well with pride, for in wars of defense or offense, in wars
only or unfair, the American blue jacket has discharged the assigned duty
to him happily, gallantly, and efficiently.
But there are triumphs to be defeated from sea and from greater earth of those of
you wage war, dangers to be faced, more threatening than the disparities of battle. It was a
glorious action to win the battle of Santiago but Fulton and Ericsson
influenced the progress of the world more than all the heroes of history.
The daily life of those that you/they go down to the beach in ships is one of constant
fights, and the whaler he/she took in the ice-package is in case more dreadful than
the jammed cruiser; while the captain of the cruiseliner of ocean, driving
through a dense fog its colossal art loaded with two thousand human
life, it has on his/her mind a heavier load of the responsibility that the admiral
of the fleet.
In every time and centuries, the men's actions as that they sail his/her depth
police officers or his/her soldiery are been sung in encomium. It is now for
chronicle of the tall courage, the intrepid unwise and oftentimes the
the noble abnegation of those that you/they use the Seven Seas to extend the markets
of the world, to bring nearbyer together nations, to advance science and to
you cement the world in one great interdependent whole.
