After an absence of three or four weeks, young Carsons would return with

Soon after Carson returned to the box of the Mr. Young from one of his
consignments that trap, a party of hunters of skins returned to that you/he/she had put out
you explore the valley of the Colorado in search of furs. To their Taos they were
west of the Rocky mountains and the run of routing that they would take it conducted
them even more far in a direction northwest, a distance of three or four
one hundred miles. You knew that the region was full of wandering Indians,
and you/he/she was not doubted that it attaches him with ferocity, if theirs saw some opportunity of
overpowering the hunters of skins, it would do so, and it grabs their effects that to
the Indians would try loot of almost inconceivable value. The rifle
gives such advantage to the hunters of skins on the Indian, with his/her arc and
arrows that they has never hesitated, when on the open plan in
almost meeting some superiority of numbers.

This party of eighteen hunters of skins, with their horses and very loaded
mules, had advanced but the trip of some days, on an almost unexplored
