PREFACE
It is a prominent object of this volume to bring for turning on the wild one
adventures of the pioneers of this continent, in the loneliness of the
mountains, the grasslands and the forests; often among Indian hostile, and
far street from the limitations and protection of the civilization. This strange,
strange-as the life you/he/she is quickly passing street, in front of the progress of
population, railroads and steamboats. But it is desirable that the memory
of he should not go adrift to forgetfulness. I think that almost every reader of
this account will be amazed rather, in its development of the
character of Christopher Carson. With energy and the fearlessness
it never overcame, certainly he was one of the kindest, right, and
agreeable of men. It is strange that the wild region had been able to form this way
respectable a character. America won't allow the virtues of this way
illustrious a child to be forgotten.
