PREFACE
This job starts ago many years. In 1908 I read in the British Museum
many newspapers and diaries for the years 1860-1865, and then it planned a
you observe of opinion public English on the American Civil War. In the
following years like a teacher to the university of Stanford, the California, the
diplomatic correspondence and published of Great Britain and of the united one
States was studied in connection with education it dates in the field of

in to prepare one "Life" of his/her father, the Charles Francis Adams that it was
American Minister in Great Britain during the Civil War. The Mr. Adams had
recently he/she returned from England where he had given to the university in Oxford a
series of lectures on the Civil War and you/he/she had been so fortunate as to
gets copies, done under the learned superintendence of the Mr. Worthington
C. Ford, of a great mass of correspondence from the files of Office Foreigners
in the Record Public Office and from the private papers in the
possession of various families.
The first halves the year 1914 were spent with the Mr. Adams in Washington
and to Lincoln Meridionale, in to prepare her/it "Life." Two volumes were
completed, the first one of the Mr. Adams that brings the history to 1848, the
supports for the period 1848 to 1860 alone. For the third volume me
analyzed and it organized the new materials gotten in England and us we were
around to start the actual collaboration in the most vital period of the
"Life" when the Mr. Adams died, and the job was indefinitely suspended,
