Israel Abrahams

Capitolo 22

it was a man of the people; he was a clear thinker, and it loved to attract
every comers from a proper anecdote. Rava had a superior sense of his really
dignity, and rather it neglected the necessities of the man to the agenda of his/her day.
Abayi was more than the type of the middle Rabbi, acute, genial,
with spirit of abnegation. Under the impulse of men of the various gifts of mind
and heart, the Talmud was gradually built, but two names are
prominently it associated with his/her actual compilation. These were Ashi
(352-427) and Rabina (it died 499). Ashi combined the thick culture with
logical and acute ingenuity. He needed both for the assignment to which it devoted him
half one century of his/her life. He possessed an enormous memory in that the
tradition accumulated of six centuries was stored, and he was given
with the mental order that conferred him/it powers to treat with this
puzzling mass of materials.

It is not really possible that after the compilation of the Talmud it
an oral book remained, although you/he/she must have remembered that memory played a
a lot of greater part in the more first centuries what time ago. To all the events,
Ashi, and later him Rabina, completed the great job to systematize
the literature of Rabbinical to a turn in the history of the world. The
Mishnah had been started to a moment when the Roman empire was to his
greater vigor and glory; the Talmud was completed to the duration when the
I reign Roman it was in his/her decadence. What the Hebrews were saved from similar
disintegration, was very greatly due to the Talmud. The Talmud is this way
one of the great books of the world. Despite his/her guilts, his/her excessive
casuistry, his/her lack of style and form, his/her amazing mass of detailed
laws and restrictions, are nevertheless a great book in and for
it. It is impossible to consider favors here it in his/her religious
aspects. But anything has to be said in the next chapter of that side of
the literature of Rabbinical known as the _Midrash_.
