PREFACE
These twenty-five short chapters on Jewish Literature open with the autumn
of Jerusalem in the year 70 of the current era, and it ends with the death
of Moses Mendelssohn in 1786. This way the covered period extends on more
what seventeen centuries. Anchor, long as it is this period, it is too much the brief one.
It is to also do the justice to the literature of the Judaism in contour,
clearly necessary to include the Bible, the Apocrypha and the writings
of Hebrews of Alexandrian as Philo. Only from such inclusion the
genius of the Israelite people is traced by its first demonstrations
through his/her spring inhaled to his/her diamond later-burns of centuries
with which these small quantities of volume.
A special reason has incited me to limit this book to the purpose
suitable above. The Bible has been treated in England and America in a
variety of excellent text-books written from and for Hebrews and Jewesses. It
seemed to me very doubtful if the time is, or it will be never, mature
to treat with the Sacred writings from the purely stand-point literary in
young students that teach. But this is the stand-stings of this volume.
This way I have controled from included the Bible, because, that
gives, I felt that I could not treat with him as me I have tried to give with
the rest of the Israelite literature, and because, there was on the other hand
any necessity for me to try of already to add to the books in use. The
you section to which I have tightened they are only rarely taught
young students in a consecutive way, except in till now as them they fall
