[Footnote 52:  Arthur Maynwaring was come down by the ancient family of
the Maynwarings of On Peover, Cheshire. He was born in 1668, to
Ightfield, Shropshire and it was educated to the Shrewsbury Grammatica School
and to Christ Church, Oxford, where his/her guardian was Smalridge. Filled with
prejudices against the Revolution, he came to London to study law but a
political satire that he published brought him/it under the notice of Dryden,
and some reception of kind the datum from a lot of Liberal men of state, to whom him
you/he/she was introduced, it caused him/it to change his/her sights on the politics, and later
his/her father's death in 1693 he abdicated the law and it determined to push his
the fortunes to the Court. He was made a Commissioner of Customs and
