Preface

_The in which original numbers of the _Tatler_ have been reprinted in two forms
1710-11;  an edition, in octavo that is published by signature, while
the other, in twelfth it was for the general public. The present edition
you/he/she has been printed from a copy of the problem according to whether, as recorded on
the title-page, was revised and it corrected from the author"; but I have
it had from my side, for continuous reference a complete set of the sheet
sheets, containing her "Lucubrations of Isaac Bickerstaff" in the form
in that they was introduced to the world before. Scrupulous accuracy in
the text has been aimed to, but the eccentricities to spell--what
it was the printer, not the author--you/he/she has not been preserved, and the
punctuation has been correct every now and then.

The first one and the more jewel of the editions annotated of the
_Tatler_ was published by John Nichols and others in 1786, with notes from
The Dr. Percy, Episcopalian of Dromore, the Dr. John Calder and the Dr. Pearce, Episcopalian
of Rochester;  and although these notes are often irrelevant and out of
both together, they contains an immense amount of information, and you/he/she has been
I freely use fact than from subsequent editors. I have endeavoured to preserve
what is of value in the oldest editions, and to complete him/it, as
concisely as possible, from so further information as appeared
desirable. The eighteenth-century notebooks and letters published late of
years have in many cases trained me to throw light on passages that
you/he/she has been until here dark, and useful illustrations have sometimes been
you found in the contemporary and periodic newspapers.

The portraits of Steele, Addison and Swift, the writers that the most greater part has associated
with the _Tatler_, you/he/she has been taken by contemporary incisions in the
British museum;  and the imaginary portrait of Isaac Bickerstaff in the
