almost all included the world that was value possessing. There was
anybody more conquests to be done. Caesar did, indeed you widen, in some
degree, the confinements of the empire; but the main question in his/her day
it was that you/he/she should possess the power that preceding conquerors
you/he/she had acquired.

The Roman empire, as it existed in those days, you/he/she must not be conceive of
from the reader as united together under a pact and consolidated
government. It was, on the other hand an enormous congeries of nations,
widely dissimilar in every respect from each other, speaking various
languages, and having the various customs and laws. They was all, however,
more employee on, and connected with, the great central
power. Some of these countries were provinces, and you/he/she were governed from
officers named and they sent from the authorities to Rome. These
governors had to pick up the taxes of their provinces, and also to
presides on and directs, in many important respects, the administration
of the justice. They had, accordingly, the abundant opportunities to enrich
them while so in the office, picking up more money that they paid
above to the government in house, and taking gifts to favor the rich one
man's cause in court. This way the richest and prosperous provinces
it was objects of the great competition among aspirant for office in Rome.
Principal men would find these appointments, and, after having remained from a lot
enough in their provinces to acquire a fortune, he/she would return to Rome,
and it still spends him/it in intrigues and manoeuvre to get taller offices.

nation or tribe there were always a great anxiety among all the
