Before I could respond or I comment on this amazing discourse there was a
awful explosion that brought me to my feet with the
inevitable,--
"What that is it?"

Then he went on as if there had been no interruption:--
"This regiment of Yorkshire has had the fortune it lasts. Only one the other regiment in
the Consignment has had worse. They has marched from the Belgian

Cambrai, Saint-Quentin, and You Fere. Saint-Quentin it was enough raw
fortune. We went to the trenches a full regiment. We came out to
withdraw again with four hundred men--and I left mine younger brother
there."
I gasped; I could not find a word to say. He didn't seem to feel him/it
necessary that I owe. He simply made the occhiolino his/her eyelids, it stiffened his
austere mouth, and it followed right; and I forgot the whole Uhlans:--

strengthened to Saint-Quentin from a French separation at four o'clock.
They reached there eleven o'clock--the battle was on--and lost. But these boys
gives a marvelous account of them, and despite the disaster
him withdrawn in perfect order."
