"During the term of October I didn't have pupils. I held the my according to Fit on
Nov.  6 (the opponents Hamilton, Rusby the Field), and an Opponency against
Jeffries on Nov.  7. I frequented the Examinations of the Questionists. I seem
to have lived an inactive and very comfortable life. The day of Commemoration was
Dec.  18, when I received a Prize and next day to which I have walked
Buries. In January.  4, 1823 that I am returned to Cambridge, and up to that the
B.A. the examination I read novels and I played cards more than to some other
time in University.

"Thursday, January.  9, 1823, the preliminary classes, for setup
of details of the B.A. the examination, was published. The excellent one,
Airy, Drinkwater, Jeffries, Mason. As far as me memory, the rule was
then, that in the certain days the classes were gathered (in respect to
the identity of questions given to every of group) this way:  1, {2nd/3},
{4th/5} & the c., and in the some other days this way:  {1st/2}, {3rd/4},
&c.  Saturday, January.  11, I paid taxes. Monday, January.  13, the
procedures of examination started from a breakfast in the Combination
Room. After this, Gibson gave me breakfast every day, and Buckle gave
some other ones and I a glass of wine after he/she dines. The hours were acute,
the season a cold, and to any fire it was permitted in the Senate House
where the examination was continued (my place was in the east
gallery), and together it was severe once.

"The course of Examination was as it follows:

"Monday, January.  13. 8 to 9, printout carpets of Hind questions of Mr
(moderator); mean-past 9 to 11, questions orally given;  1 to 3, say;
6 to 9, carpet of problems to the rooms of Mr Higman.

"Tuesday, January.  14. 8 to 9, the paper of Higman;  mean-past 9 to 11,
