necessary also for him to keep in touch with the Continental one
Observatories and their job and this he very industriously did and
with success, both from correspondence and relationships personal with the
foreign astronomers. There was also a lot of job on important subjects
more connected with his/her official duties--as geodetical
you observe job, the establishment of places time-balls different,
the determinations of longitude, observation of eclipse and the
the determination of the density of the Earth. There was lately, a great
quantity of time and job not very immediately given to questions
connected with his/her office, but on that the Government asked his
assistance in the ability of scientific and general advisor: man was
the Correction of the Compass in iron ships, the indicator of level of Platform
Committees, the Committee for the Restoration of the Standards of
Length and it Gets heavy, the Border of Maine, Lighthouses, the Westminster
Beats, the London university and a lot of other questions.
Besides those aforementioned there were many subjects that
him taken on pure and simple interest in the investigations. For him
is fairly said that every subject of a separately practical nature,
what advanced could be from mathematical knowledge, it had an interest for
him: and its incessant industry trained him to find time for many of
them. Among such subjects Tides and Observations Of the tide were,
Mechanism and the Efforts in Rays and Bridges. A certain portion of
its time was given Lectures hips, generally on current astronomic
questions, for him it contained him/it as his/her duty to popularize as far the science
how disposition in his/her power. And he witnessed the reunions of the Reality
Astronomic society with great regularity, and taken a very active
divides in the discussions and business of the Society. He did a lot also
jobs for the Real Society, and (above to a certain date) for the English
Association.
