What a government of _good_ is, you only have in imagination to stain from
the earth's face anything is grown under his/her protection and
encouragement, from the wish and the benediction of the Almighty during the
years of fourscore of his/her existence;  you level all the cities, lunges the commerce,
you prostrate the schools and churches, you obliterate the whole science history,
and thought that you/he/she has raised, extinguishes the light of oratory, turns again the
wheel of improvement, and it allows us to the opening of 1776;  you appraise everybody
the liberty of action, of expression, of industry;  you calculate the sum of human creature
comforts, also of luxuries that you/he/she has brought to our hand. You look at ours
ships, our mechanism our houses, our sanctuaries our institutions of
morality, of the mercy and of religion;  our wealth, intelligence, order,
power;  you consider the elevation it dates to millions in the worse form of
the civilization in the earth, showing how such it is the strength that vitalizes of ours
national life that equal slavery here, bad as it is--and we know of
nothing worse as a system--it lifts men above of the natural license of savage
existence. You consider all this, and very more, that I cannot stop to send forth,
and you are not able--You _do_ not--any healthy mind _can_ doubts the supreme one
excellence--I had almost said the excellence of _divine_--of ours
government. And if there was need of other test, we only have to remember to
You with that promptness the call of our Principal and noble Judge was
answered free by every State--from the city and the small village;  from the
you deposit money, the bar, the press and the pulpit;  from the shop and the ground;
from the calm and he/she comforts of house and ease and the abundance, and from the
the poor man's cottage, as if the pulsates some government you/he/she was striking in
every vein, and the wish of the locker had its house in every breast!
